Amazon Q4 2026: the operations checklist for peak season

An Amazon Q4 2026 checklist starts with Amazon's arrival dates for Prime-badge eligibility during Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday: AWD by October 14, FBA by October 21 with minimal shipment splits, or October 28 with Amazon-optimized splits. Then budget for peak fulfillment fees from October 15 to January 14, 2027 and peak storage rates from October to December, pace ads by stock, and file January claims on time.
- Amazon's 2026 arrival dates for Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday: AWD by October 14, FBA by October 21 (minimal shipment splits) or October 28 (Amazon-optimized splits).
- Holiday peak fulfillment fees apply from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027 on FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment and Buy with Prime, averaging $0.32 per unit over non-peak rates.
- Amazon's base storage fee for standard-size, non-dangerous goods is $2.40 per cubic foot from October to December, against $0.78 from January to September.
- Since January 15, 2026, the US low-inventory-level fee is measured per seller FNSKU and charged only when both the 30-day and 90-day historical days of supply are below 28; Amazon lists no seasonal exemption.
- Walmart says most items bought October 1 through December 31 are returnable until January 31, and that Marketplace seller participation varies.
- TikTok Shop requires a Shop Performance Score of 3.5 or higher (for shops that have one) to enroll in campaigns such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and says campaign review can take 5 to 14 business days.
Peak season is decided in September and October, not on Black Friday. By the time shoppers arrive, the stock that can sell with a Prime badge is already in the network, the fees for the quarter are already set, and what is left to adjust is ads, prices and what you ship yourself. This checklist is for US brands selling on Amazon, often with Walmart and TikTok Shop alongside. It covers operations only. Every date and fee below was checked against the official Amazon, Walmart, TikTok Shop or USPS page on September 25, 2026, and each one is linked where it is used.
What are Amazon's 2026 holiday inventory deadlines?
Three dates matter for Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday. Amazon's Holiday 2026 announcement (checked September 25, 2026) says inventory should arrive at Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD) by October 14, at FBA by October 21 if you chose minimal shipment splits, and at FBA by October 28 if you chose Amazon-optimized splits, which most sellers use. Amazon ties those dates to Prime-badge eligibility during the events. The same post says fulfillment centers focus on receiving holiday shipments in September and October, then shift to customer orders in November and December, when capacity limits may be lower.
"Arrive" is not "available". A truck at the dock on October 28 can wait days to be checked in and more days to be received, and your listing sells only what is received. Our stockouts guide quotes an August 2024 post by Amazon staff: less-than-truckload and full-truckload shipments can take up to 10 days to reach Checked in and up to 9 more to reach Receiving, longer at peak. Work backward from the arrival date with your own receiving history per lane, not the carrier's delivery estimate, and book the freight before you book the deal.
The Q4 2026 calendar, date by date
Here is the season on one page: Amazon, Walmart and TikTok Shop dates in order, each linked to its official source, with the move it calls for. Two rows had already passed on September 25; they stay in the table because stock that missed them now serves later sales, not the events those dates were set for.
| Date | Channel | What happens | Your move |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sep 1 and Sep 15 (passed) | Walmart | Walmart's holiday logistics checklist asked Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) sellers to plan for inventory to arrive by Sept. 1 for its October Event and Sept. 15 for its Annual Event | If you missed them, send WFS stock now and track receiving |
| Sep 2, 9 and 16 (passed) | Amazon | Prime Big Deal Days arrival dates: AWD, then FBA with minimal splits, then FBA with Amazon-optimized splits | Stock that arrived late now serves Black Friday; re-count it |
| Oct 1 | Amazon | Peak monthly storage rates start and run through December | Remove or mark down slow movers before they pay peak rates |
| Oct 5, Nov 5, Dec 5 | TikTok Shop | Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) capacity is updated once a month, on the 5th | Check your quota before creating inbound requests |
| Oct 6-7 | Amazon | Prime Big Deal Days: 48 hours, in the US and 21 other countries | Compare sell-through with forecast and re-forecast November |
| Oct 14 | Amazon | Last AWD arrival date for Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday | Deeper buffer lands in AWD by this date |
| Oct 15 | Amazon | Holiday peak fulfillment fees start: FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) and Buy with Prime | Re-check margins on thin SKUs and MCF orders |
| Oct 16 | TikTok Shop | FBT accepts meltable products again, from October 16 to April 14 | Time chocolate, gummy and wax inbounds to arrive on or after this date |
| Oct 20 | Amazon | Deal submissions for Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday close (the window opened July 8) | Submit deals only on SKUs with stock to cover them |
| Oct 21 | Amazon | FBA arrival date for minimal shipment splits | Confirm check-in, not just delivery |
| Fourth week of October | Amazon | November capacity limit confirmed, December estimate updated, January estimated | Rebuild the November and December send plan in cubic feet |
| Oct 28 | Amazon | FBA arrival date for Amazon-optimized splits | Later stock may miss the Prime badge during the events |
| November and December | Amazon | Fulfillment centers shift to customer orders; capacity limits may be lower | Top up FBA from AWD or a 3PL in smaller, earlier sends |
| Nov 27 and Nov 30 | All channels | Black Friday and Cyber Monday | Check days of cover daily and pace ads by stock |
| Dec 17 | Seller-fulfilled | USPS recommends shipping Ground Advantage by Dec. 17 and Priority Mail by Dec. 18 for delivery by December 25 in the contiguous US | Set holiday cutoffs on Walmart, TikTok Shop, Shopify and Amazon seller-fulfilled (FBM) orders |
| Jan 7-15, 2027 | Amazon | December storage, billed at peak rates, is charged (typically between the 7th and 15th of the next month) | Reconcile the charge per SKU |
| Jan 14, 2027 | Amazon | Peak fulfillment fees end | Reset margin models to standard rates |
| Jan 15, 2027 | Amazon | Monthly aged inventory surcharge snapshot, taken on the 15th of every month | Removal orders submitted by 11:59 p.m. PT on the 14th escape that month's surcharge |
| Jan 31, 2027 | Walmart, Amazon | Walmart's posted holiday return window (most items bought October 1 to December 31) ends; Amazon's 2025 window also closed on January 31 | Expect returns into February and staff grading for them |
| Late January onward | Amazon | Customer return claims open 60 days after each refund and close at 120 days | A December 1 refund can be claimed from January 30 to March 31 |
How much stock do you need, and where?
Enough to sell through to the first shipment you can count on being received after the cutoff, plus safety stock. For peak, that gap is longer than usual, because Amazon warns of lower capacity limits while its fulfillment centers focus on customer orders in November and December. Size it per SKU, then convert it to cubic feet, because capacity is set in volume, not units.
Units needed at FBA on the arrival date = forecast units for each day from that date until your next shipment can be received + safety stock
Illustrative example: a SKU is forecast at 40 units a day from October 28 to November 20, 90 a day from November 21 to 30, and 50 a day in December. If your next inbound cannot be counted on until December 10, you need 960 + 900 + 500 = 2,360 units at FBA on October 28, plus 14 days of safety stock at 50 a day (700 units): 3,060 units. That is the number to plan freight, deals and ad budgets around, and every figure in it is yours to replace with your own forecast.
At 0.1 cubic feet per unit that is 306 cubic feet of your November FBA capacity limit, which Amazon sets per storage type and which counts open shipments too. If the limit is short, Amazon's capacity limits page says Capacity Manager lets you bid a reservation fee for more space, earning back $0.15 in performance credits per dollar of sales made with it. At the $2.40 peak rate, a full month of 306 cubic feet costs about $734 in base storage; set that against the lost margin our stockout cost calculator estimates for running out. For the everyday version of this math, use the reorder point calculator.
Whatever does not fit at FBA should sit where it can reach FBA quickly:
| Where the stock sits | What it does in Q4 | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| FBA | Sells with the Prime badge; one monthly limit per storage type, in cubic feet | Peak storage from October; lower limits possible in November and December |
| AWD | Amazon's holiday post suggests it for higher holiday volume, to store extra stock and replenish FBA automatically; it has its own box and pallet allocations in Capacity Manager | Arrival by October 14; extra pallet space through Storage Reservation needs at least 6 weeks' notice; SKUs with 70% or more of units auto-replenished from AWD over 90 days are exempt from the low-inventory-level fee |
| Your warehouse or 3PL | Feeds FBA, seller-fulfilled Walmart and TikTok Shop orders, and your own store | Every send to FBA still needs capacity; carrier cutoffs in mid-December |
| Walmart WFS | Walmart ships the orders and handles returns | Walmart suggests 8 to 12 weeks of supply; peak storage terms (see the Walmart section) |
| TikTok FBT | Storage free for inventory held up to 60 days, on the current rate card | Inbound requests are blocked once your quota is used |
Keep FBA above the low-inventory-level line too. Amazon's fee page (checked September 25, 2026) charges the fee per seller FNSKU when both the 30-day and 90-day historical days of supply are below 28 days, updates the metric weekly and ignores inbound units, so a best seller that sells down in December with slow receiving can start paying it in January.
Which fees change in peak season?
Four Amazon charges move or matter more in Q4, plus the peak terms on Walmart and TikTok Shop. The figures are headline rates from each company's own page, checked September 25, 2026; the linked pages carry the full rate cards by size tier and weight.
| Charge | What changes in Q4 | When |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon fulfillment fees (FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, MCF, Buy with Prime) | Peak rates, averaging $0.32 per unit over non-peak, with the 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge on top | Oct 15, 2026 to Jan 14, 2027 |
| Amazon monthly storage | Base rates for non-dangerous goods go from $0.78 to $2.40 per cubic foot (standard-size) and from $0.56 to $1.40 (oversize); the storage utilization surcharge still applies to eligible sellers | October to December, billed the following month |
| Amazon promotion fees | $100 per promotion plus 1.5% of promotional sales (capped at $5,000) for Best Deals, Lightning Deals and Prime Exclusive Price Discounts, the same as Prime Day, says Amazon's holiday post | Per promotion |
| Amazon low-inventory-level fee | No seasonal change; measured per FNSKU since January 15, 2026, and now includes Small and Large Bulky | Weekly metric, all year |
| Walmart WFS storage | The WFS fee guide (updated May 27, 2026) adds $1.50 per cubic foot per month for items stored over 30 days; Walmart's July checklist promotes zero peak-season storage fees | October to December |
| TikTok FBT storage | The FBT rate card keeps storage free for inventory held up to 60 days and lists no peak-season surcharge | All year |
The peak fulfillment fee is small per unit and easy to ignore, but it lands on your thinnest SKUs and on every MCF order you ship for Walmart or TikTok Shop from FBA stock. Amazon publishes the peak rates by size and weight, so recalculate MCF cost per order at peak rates before you route holiday orders from other channels through FBA. The non-peak base moved too: Amazon's 2026 fee update (checked September 25, 2026) raised FBA fees by an average of $0.08 per unit sold from January 15, 2026.
Storage can cost more per unit than the peak fulfillment fee. A standard-size unit of 0.1 cubic feet that sits at FBA from October through December pays about $0.72 in base storage, against about $0.23 for the same three months at off-peak rates, before any utilization surcharge. Send what will sell through by January, and hold the rest in AWD or a 3PL. The full storage picture, including the aged inventory surcharge, is on our storage fees page.
How should ads follow stock during Q4?
Amazon Ads' FAQ (checked September 25, 2026) says that if your product is not the Featured Offer or is out of stock, your Sponsored Products ad will not display. So the ad stops on its own at zero. The waste happens earlier: paying peak-season clicks to speed a SKU into a stockout weeks before the next shipment can be received, while a deep-stock SKU in the same catalog sits under-funded. Pace spend by one comparison per SKU, checked daily through peak: days of cover against days until the next shipment is received.
| Days of cover compared with the inbound gap | What to do with the ads |
|---|---|
| Cover exceeds the gap plus safety stock | Spend to plan; this SKU can carry deals and top-of-search bids |
| Cover exceeds the gap, but not the safety stock | Hold bids; no new deals or budget increases |
| Cover is shorter than the gap | Lower bids, keeping only your best-converting search terms to protect rank; move budget to deep-stock SKUs |
| Out of stock, or lost the Featured Offer | Ads stop showing; plan the restart for the day units are received, not the day they ship |
Deals follow the same rule. A Lightning Deal on a SKU with ten days of cover and no inbound until December pays at least $100 in promotion fees to run out faster. The 90-day view on the low-inventory-level fee absorbs a short spike, as Amazon's own Prime Day example shows, but a SKU that sells down and cannot be refilled in November can still slip under both the 30-day and 90-day lines. The logic behind this table, and how it connects to the Amazon Ads API, is on our inventory-aware ad spend page.
What about Walmart and TikTok Shop?
Walmart. Walmart's July 26, 2026 holiday logistics checklist (checked September 25, 2026) asked WFS sellers to plan for inventory to arrive by Sept. 1 for the October Event and Sept. 15 for the Annual Event. Both have passed, so track receiving closely on anything you send now. The same checklist says to monitor WFS inventory daily and keep 8 to 12 weeks of supply. Storage is the open question: it promotes "zero peak-season storage fees or fuel surcharges" for WFS, while the WFS fee guide still lists a $1.50 per cubic foot peak add-on for items stored over 30 days. Confirm which applies in Seller Center.
Returns and seller-fulfilled orders need the same early setup. Walmart's return policy page says most items bought October 1 through December 31 are returnable until January 31, and that Marketplace seller participation varies, so confirm your own return terms before orders start. For orders you ship yourself, set handling times and holiday cutoffs against the USPS dates in the calendar above. Our Walmart marketplace guide covers WFS fees and the cancellation, on-time delivery and valid tracking standards that peak orders are measured against.
TikTok Shop. Campaigns such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday run through Seller Center, under Marketing, then Campaigns. TikTok's campaign FAQ (checked September 25, 2026) requires a shop with a Shop Performance Score to hold 3.5 or higher to enroll and 3.0 to stay enrolled, and says review can take 5 to 14 business days, so register as soon as registration opens. We could not find a public TikTok page with the 2026 campaign dates, so read them in Seller Center. Our TikTok Shop guide covers fees, creators and fulfillment for Amazon brands.
FBT has its own capacity rules. TikTok's capacity page counts confirmed in-transit inbound requests plus stock in the warehouse as used capacity, shows estimates for the current month and the next three, and blocks any inbound request that would take you over the quota. Storage on the FBT rate card is free for a unit's first 60 days, so stock that arrives in mid-October stays free until mid-December, past Black Friday and Cyber Monday. After 60 days it costs $0.03 per cubic foot per day, rising with age.
Shared stock runs out first. If Walmart and TikTok Shop orders ship from FBA through MCF, they draw on the same units Amazon shoppers buy and pay Amazon's peak MCF rates from October 15. Forecast each channel separately, roll the total up against the shared pool, and decide in advance which channel stops drawing on FBA when cover gets short.
What should you do in January about returns, reimbursements and aged stock?
January is when Q4 gets settled. Returns keep arriving until the extended windows close on January 31 and for days after. On September 25, 2026, Amazon's Extended Holiday Returns page still showed the 2025 policy: items bought November 1 to December 31, 2025 were returnable through January 31, 2026, for seller-fulfilled, FBA and Amazon retail orders. Plan for a similar window until Amazon posts the 2026 version, and budget time for grading returns into February.
Reimbursements have short windows. A customer return claim opens 60 days after the refund and closes at 120 days, so a refund on December 1 can be claimed from January 30 to March 31, 2027. Units Amazon reports lost or damaged in its warehouses must be claimed within 60 days of the report. Amazon resolves many cases itself: its return claims policy says that when a refunded item is not returned within 60 days, in most cases it charges the customer and reimburses you. Check the rest weekly in the Inventory Defect and Reimbursement portal, because a review once a quarter finds 60-day windows already closed. The claim types, windows and evidence are in our FBA reimbursements guide.
Aged stock arrives last. If holiday stock does not sell through, the aged inventory surcharge follows: units received on October 28 turn 181 days old on April 27, 2027, so the May 15 snapshot is the first that can charge them (units received on September 16, the last Prime Big Deal Days date, reach it at the April 15 snapshot). Amazon counts age first-in, first-out across its network, so your oldest units are counted first. Decide in January which leftovers to mark down through an Amazon Outlet deal (a minimum 20% discount), remove to your 3PL or liquidate; a removal order submitted by 11:59 p.m. PT on the 14th escapes that month's snapshot.
What should you do this week?
It is late September, so Amazon's October arrival dates come first. A working list, in order:
- This week: confirm November and December forecasts per SKU and channel, and convert every planned FBA send to cubic feet.
- By early October: book freight backward from October 14 (AWD) and October 21 or 28 (FBA), using your own check-in times, not carrier estimates.
- October 5: read your updated TikTok FBT quota before creating inbound requests.
- Before October 15: re-check margins on thin SKUs and MCF orders at peak fulfillment rates.
- By October 20: submit Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday deals only on SKUs with cover beyond the inbound gap.
- Fourth week of October: read the confirmed November capacity limit and rebuild the send plan.
- November: check days of cover daily, pace ads by stock, and top up FBA from AWD or your 3PL.
- Early December: set holiday shipping cutoffs for seller-fulfilled orders against USPS's December 17 and 18 dates.
- January: file return and warehouse claims inside their windows, reconcile December storage, and plan leftovers before the aged-stock snapshots.

See Growth OS ↗If your plan is a spreadsheet and a few seller tools, Amazon's own Restock Inventory page and Capacity Monitor may be enough for one channel. Once stock serves several channels from several places, you need the numbers in one system. Ecomsellertool builds that layer on your own accounts; we have built on Amazon's seller APIs since 2017. Growth OS tracks days of cover per SKU and channel, drafts purchase orders, shipment plans and ad budget changes for SKUs heading for a stockout, and flags lost and damaged units with claims prepared, for your team to approve. You keep your accounts, your data and the custom code we build; the Growth OS base is licensed to you.

Frequently asked questions
What happens if my FBA shipment arrives after October 28?
Amazon's October dates are the arrival dates it gives for Prime-badge eligibility during Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday. Units that arrive later can still be received and sold once available, but they may miss the badge during the events, and Amazon warns that capacity limits may be lower in November and December while its fulfillment centers focus on customer orders.
Does the low-inventory-level fee pause for the holidays?
No. Amazon's fee page lists no seasonal exemption. The fee applies to eligible products only when both the 30-day and 90-day historical days of supply are below 28 days, and the 90-day view softens a short sales spike. Products that sold fewer than 20 units in the past 7 days are exempt, and inbound units do not count as inventory.
Are Amazon's 2026 holiday fulfillment fees higher than last year's?
The peak increase is the same as last year: Amazon says peak fees average $0.32 per unit over non-peak rates, from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027, with the 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge on top. The non-peak base moved, though: Amazon's 2026 fee update raised FBA fees by an average of $0.08 per unit sold from January 15, 2026. Check your own SKUs at the published peak rates rather than either average.
When does Amazon's holiday return window end this year?
Amazon has not posted it yet. On September 25, 2026, its Seller Central page still showed the 2025 policy: items bought November 1 to December 31, 2025 were returnable through January 31, 2026 (Apple products through January 15), for seller-fulfilled, FBA and Amazon retail orders. Plan for a similar window until Amazon posts the 2026 version.
Do Walmart WFS storage fees go up in Q4?
Walmart's own pages disagree. The WFS fee guide, last updated May 27, 2026, keeps the base rate at $0.75 per cubic foot per month and adds $1.50 per cubic foot per month from October to December for items stored more than 30 days. Walmart's July 2026 holiday logistics checklist promotes zero peak-season storage fees for WFS. Confirm which applies to your items in Seller Center before you plan on free storage.
How early should I register for TikTok Shop's Black Friday campaign?
As soon as registration opens in Seller Center under Marketing, then Campaigns. TikTok says campaign review can take 5 to 14 business days, and a shop with a Shop Performance Score needs 3.5 or higher to enroll and 3.0 or higher to stay enrolled. We could not find the 2026 campaign dates on a public TikTok page, so read them on the campaign's details page in Seller Center.
Can someone check my Amazon account before peak season?
Yes. Ecomsellertool's free 24-hour diagnostic connects to Amazon through Login with Amazon, with no password shared, and sends a report within 24 hours of connecting, on business days. It covers stockout risk, storage fees, reimbursements owed and ad spend on low-stock SKUs. We only read data; we never change listings, prices, stock or ads.
