Amazon's 2027 US fee changes: what moves, when, and what to check before January 15

Short answer

Amazon says FBA fulfillment fees rise by $0.19 per unit on average in 2027, about 0.8% of the average selling price, with most changes from January 15. On February 1, one age-based storage fee replaces the aged inventory and utilization surcharges, and the low-inventory-level fee changes its test. Re-check every SKU's size tier, price band and margin first.

  • Amazon says FBA fulfillment fees rise by $0.19 per unit on average in 2027, about 0.8% of the average item's selling price, with most changes effective January 15, 2027.
  • Small standard-size fees rise $0.40 on average at $10-$50 and $0.70 above $50; large standard-size fees rise $0.12 and $0.47.
  • The fee gap between the $10-$50 and above-$50 price bands widens from $0.26 to about $0.56 in the standard-size rows we compared.
  • From February 1, 2027, one age-based storage rate replaces the aged inventory surcharge and the storage utilization surcharge.
  • From February 1, 2027, the low-inventory-level fee looks at shipments in the four weeks before and after each weekly inventory check, and the charge shows four weeks later.
  • Amazon's fee tables exclude the 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge, which still applies to fulfillment fees.

Amazon has published its 2027 US fees in Seller Central help, and it says it wants sellers to have more than two months to plan. The headline is small: $0.19 per unit on average, about 0.8% of the average selling price (checked November 6, 2026). Your own number will not be the average. It depends on size tier, price band, how old your stock is and whether you use AWD or MCF. This article lists every change by date, shows the fee rows that moved, and gives you a worksheet to run per SKU. All Amazon facts were read in Seller Central help on November 6, 2026, and Amazon can edit these pages, so check them again before you act.

What changes, and on which date?

Start with the calendar. Each row comes from Amazon's 2027 fee overview unless it links elsewhere, and the last column is our suggestion. Amazon gives no separate date for some rows, and we say so rather than guess.

Two offers run the other way. Renewed products get a 10% referral rate in eligible categories through October 18, 2027, and Amazon says the New Selection program now offers up to $600 in value per new product, with fee credits and free storage on the first 200 units.

Which fulfillment fees moved the most?

Amazon's rate tables compare January 15 to October 14 rates in 2026 and 2027, without the fuel surcharge and without holiday peak fees. We picked common rows from the non-apparel table. Differences are our arithmetic.

Size tier and weightUnder $10: 2026 → 2027$10-$50: 2026 → 2027Above $50: 2026 → 2027
Small standard, 2 oz or less$2.43 → $2.64$3.32 → $3.75$3.58 → $4.31
Small standard, 6+ to 8 oz$2.66 → $2.83$3.54 → $3.97$3.80 → $4.53
Small standard, 14+ to 16 oz$2.95 → $2.99$3.96 → $4.32$4.22 → $4.88
Large standard, 4 oz or less$2.91 → $2.91$3.73 → $3.79$3.99 → $4.35
Large standard, 12+ to 16 oz$3.78 → $3.78$4.60 → $4.67$4.86 → $5.23
Large standard, 2+ to 2.25 lb$5.10 → $5.10$5.92 → $6.08$6.18 → $6.64
Large standard, 2.75+ to 3 lb$5.85 → $5.85$6.67 → $6.85$6.93 → $7.41

Read the table across as well as down. In all seven rows, the step from the $10-$50 band to the above-$50 band grows from $0.26 to about $0.56, so from January 15, taking a $49.99 product above $50 costs $0.56 more per unit in fulfillment, up from $0.26. The step from under $10 to $10-$50 grows too. For small standard at 6+ to 8 oz it goes from $0.88 to $1.14, and for large standard at 12+ to 16 oz from $0.82 to $0.89.

Then add the surcharge. Amazon says a 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge has applied to FBA fulfillment fees since April 17, 2026, and that it keeps reviewing it. At today's level, the $3.97 fee is about $4.11 in practice. Bulky and oversize products have new tiers and their own rate cards, so we left them out; Amazon says smaller, lighter items pay less there and larger, heavier ones pay more.

How do you work out what the change costs each SKU?

Use these columns per SKU. The fee change comes from Amazon's tables and the units from your sales; the last column tells you how much price would cover the rise after the referral fee on that extra price.

Monthly cost of the change = (2027 fee − 2026 fee) × units shipped per month

Price rise that covers it = (2027 fee − 2026 fee) ÷ (1 − referral rate)

The three SKUs below are made up to show the arithmetic, with a 15% referral rate assumed for all three. Use your own category's rate. Neither figure includes the 3.5% surcharge.

Illustrative SKUFee changeUnits a monthMonthly costShare of pricePrice rise that covers it
Small standard, 6+ to 8 oz, $24+$0.43900$3871.8%$0.51
Large standard, 12+ to 16 oz, $35+$0.07600$420.2%$0.08
Large standard, 2+ to 2.25 lb, $79+$0.46300$1380.6%$0.54

The first SKU pays well above Amazon's 0.8% average and the second well below it, which is why the average does not help you. Sort your catalog by monthly cost and by share of price. The first list tells you where the money goes, and the second tells you which SKUs may fall under your margin floor. Amazon's new Fee Change Comparison dashboard in Profit Analytics shows the fee side. Margin needs your own landed cost and ad cost next to it.

What happens to storage costs on February 1?

Stock under six months gets simpler and can get cheaper, and stock just past six months gets dearer. For standard-size goods from January to September, the unified rate is $0.78 per cubic foot to 180 days, $2.78 at 181-270 days, and $6.68 at 271-365 days. Today, 181-210 day stock pays $1.28, so that band rises $1.50. From 331 days the totals match today's, and the utilization surcharge is gone at every age. October to December adds $1.62 on top. Our old-versus-new storage table has every age band and a worked example.

The practical move is to look at what will be 150 days old or more on February 1 and decide now: sell through, move it, or accept the new rate. Holding stock in AWD does not avoid this entirely, since AWD storage also goes age-based on March 1. An FNSKU with 70% or more auto-replenished from AWD does pay the lowest unified rate at any age, according to Amazon's page.

What happens to the low-inventory-level fee?

The rates for today's tiers stay the same, but the test changes. Amazon compares stock at a weekly check with shipments in the four weeks before and the four weeks after. The fee applies only if both come in under 28 days of supply, and you see the charge four weeks later, as a separate line on the Payment view report. A demand spike after the check or a planned end-of-season run-down no longer brings the fee by itself. Any rule that watches this fee has to work from a forecast, because the real answer arrives a month late. Our page on inventory-aware ad spend has the old and new test side by side.

What should you do before January 15?

Peak season leaves little time, so keep the list short. Most of it is data work, and it is the same work every time Amazon changes a rate card.

  1. Export your catalog with size tier, price band and units. The Fee Preview report has size tier, dimensions and weight, and is the base for everything else.
  2. Check every size tier against your own measurements. New tiers are a good moment to catch a wrong one, and a mistake repeats on every unit.
  3. Flag the five low-price categories under $10. That is where a single SKU's rise can be largest.
  4. Run the worksheet above. Sort by monthly cost, then by share of price against your margin floor.
  5. Flag prices near $10 and $50. The steps at those lines are bigger in 2027.
  6. List stock that will pass 180 days by February 1. Decide before the new rate starts.
  7. Update your reports. The surcharges end, and low-inventory-level charges move to their own line and arrive later, so anything that reads them needs a look.

Who can build this check so you do not repeat it next year?

Ecomsellertool builds the check that keeps doing this after January: fee tables, your cost history and your margin floors in one place, with SKUs flagged for a person to reprice, and it can run on Growth OS. We have built on Amazon's seller APIs since 2017, and you stay in charge of every price. Send this workflow as a project brief and a person replies with a written plan.

Neither case below is a fee-change project, but both are the base this check needs. For Lavley, we built a sales analytics suite where the team enters cost of goods with a history of every change, so profit comes from real costs, and goals run by net margin. For Truskin, we built an Amazon reporting portal that refreshes the last 60 days of data because Amazon restates figures daily.

You keep your accounts, your data and the custom code we build; the Growth OS base is licensed to you.

What did we not check?

We read the Seller Central help pages listed here on November 6, 2026. Amazon's public summary at amazon.com/selling-fee-changes restricts automated readers, so we did not use it. We did not read the bulky and oversize rate cards row by row, the 2027 MCF, AWD or Buy X, Get Y pages beyond the overview, or the marketplaces outside the US. This article is not financial advice, and your own numbers should come from your account.

Frequently asked questions

How much are Amazon FBA fees going up in 2027?

Amazon says $0.19 per unit on average, about 0.8% of the average selling price, with some products rising and others falling. Small standard-size products at $10-$50 rise $0.40 on average and large standard-size $0.12. Above $50 the rises are $0.70 and $0.47. Below $10, small standard rises $0.20, and large standard non-apparel stays the same.

When do the 2027 Amazon fees start?

Most start January 15, 2027, when fulfillment fees return from holiday peak rates to the new non-peak rates. The unified storage fee, the new low-inventory-level test and AWD processing and transportation rates start February 1. Age-based AWD storage starts March 1. The 3D printer referral rate started November 5, 2026.

Is Amazon removing the aged inventory surcharge?

As a separate fee, yes, from February 1, 2027. Amazon combines it with monthly storage into one age-based rate and also removes the storage utilization surcharge. Amazon says fees stay flat or fall for stock that turns in under six months and rise for aged stock. At 181-210 days, standard-size goods go from $1.28 to $2.78 per cubic foot, off-peak.

Which products lose low-price FBA rates in 2027?

Amazon names five fee categories: Automotive and Powersports, Compact Appliances, Computers, Musical Instruments and AV Production, and Media (Books, DVD, Music, Software, Video). Products in them priced under $10 pay the $10-$50 rates instead. In the large standard 12+ to 16 oz row, that is $4.67 rather than $3.78, before the fuel surcharge.

Where can I see how the 2027 fees affect my account?

Amazon points to a new Fee Change Comparison dashboard in Profit Analytics and to the Revenue Calculator for modeling. Those show fee changes. To see the effect on margin, compare them with your own landed cost, referral fee and ad cost per unit for each SKU, which is the worksheet in this article.

Who can build a 2027 fee and margin check for my SKUs?

Ecomsellertool builds this kind of check on your own accounts. It reads your Amazon reports, holds your cost history and flags SKUs that fall under your margin floor. Send one workflow through the project brief at /services/workflow-automation and a person replies with a written plan and a fixed price.
