Selling on eBay as an Amazon brand: accounts, fees, policies and sync

Updated · Ecomsellertool

Short answer

An Amazon brand can sell the same products on eBay from the same inventory. Register a business account with your EIN and a business checking account in the same name, list only stock you own or hold under a wholesale supplier agreement, and budget a final value fee of 13.6% plus $0.40 per order over $10 in most US categories. The real work is keeping eBay listings, prices, stock and orders in sync with Amazon to avoid overselling.

  • eBay's US final value fee in most categories is 13.6% of the sale up to $7,500 per item and 2.35% above that, plus $0.30 per order of $10 or less and $0.40 above.
  • eBay calculates the final value fee on the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, handling, sales tax and the shipping the buyer pays, with some shipping exceptions.
  • A US business account needs the legal business name, an EIN, a physical business address, stakeholder identity details and a business checking account in the matching name.
  • eBay allows drop shipping only from stock you own or a wholesale supplier you have an agreement with; buying from another retailer or marketplace to ship to your buyer is not allowed.
  • To publish through eBay's Inventory API, each offer needs payment, return and fulfillment business policies plus an inventory location.
  • Amazon Multichannel Fulfillment (MCF) ships orders from other channels out of the same inventory pool as FBA, in unbranded packaging by default.

What eBay requires

  • A business account registered with the legal business name, EIN, physical business address and identity details for the primary contact, beneficial owners and other stakeholders.
  • A business checking account in the same business name as the eBay account for payouts, since eBay requires the two account types to match.
  • Stock you own or a wholesale supplier agreement; eBay does not allow filling orders by buying from another retailer or marketplace.
  • Product identifiers in most categories: a GTIN such as a UPC or EAN, or brand plus MPN, matching the exact product.
  • Titles within eBay's 80-character limit and category item specifics, so Amazon titles and attributes need rewriting and mapping.
  • Payment, return and fulfillment business policies plus an inventory location before listings can be published through the Inventory API.
  • Above Standard: defect rate of 2% or less and at most 2 cases (or 0.3%) closed without seller resolution. Top Rated adds 0.5% defects, at most 5 late shipments (or 3%), 95% validated tracking, 90 days active, and 100 transactions and $1,000 in US sales a year.

What we automate

  • eBay listings built from your Amazon catalog: titles rewritten within eBay's 80-character limit, item specifics mapped per category, GTINs carried over and size or color variants grouped into one listing.
  • Price sync with a per-SKU floor that includes eBay's fee on the full order total, pushed in bulk, with floor breaches held for approval.
  • Stock sync from one inventory position across FBA, 3PLs and your warehouse, with a per-channel buffer to keep eBay from selling units you do not have.
  • Order import through eBay's Fulfillment API and routing to Amazon MCF, a 3PL or your warehouse, with tracking sent to eBay as soon as the fulfiller returns it.
  • Seller standards monitoring that flags orders at risk of shipping late, missing tracking, defects and open cases before eBay's monthly evaluation.
  • Margin reporting per eBay order after final value fees, per-order fees, ads and fulfillment cost.

Most Amazon brands already have what eBay needs: branded products with GTINs, stock in FBA or a 3PL, and listing content. What they lack is the plumbing to run a second catalog without a second team.

Can you sell on eBay and Amazon at the same time?

Yes. Brands list the same SKUs on both and fill orders from one pool of stock. eBay's condition is where that stock comes from: you must own the items before listing, or have a wholesale supplier agreement. Buying from another retailer or marketplace to ship to the eBay buyer is not allowed.

Fulfilling eBay orders from your own FBA stock is allowed. Amazon Multichannel Fulfillment (MCF) ships other channels' orders from the same inventory pool as FBA, in unbranded packaging by default (US items longer than 56 inches or heavier than 49.9 lb excluded). eBay's conditions: you are named as the seller on packing slips and invoices, delivery meets your listing terms, and the fulfiller uses eBay order data only for that order.

Personal or business account: which does a brand need?

eBay says any registered business, including a sole proprietor or LLC, should register a business account. It asks for the legal business name, EIN, physical business address and identity details for stakeholders such as beneficial owners. Because eBay and checking account types must match, payouts go to a business checking account in the same name.

An eBay Store is optional. Without one you get 250 free listings a month, then $0.35 each in most categories. On an annual plan, Starter ($4.95 a month) keeps 250 free listings but charges $0.30 after that; Basic ($21.95) includes 1,000 free fixed-price listings.

How much does eBay take from a sale?

In most US categories eBay charges one final value fee per sale: 13.6% of the total up to $7,500 per item, 2.35% above that, plus a per-order fee. The total covers item price, handling, sales tax and buyer-paid shipping; if you also offer 1-day or international shipping, eBay uses your cheapest domestic option.

FeeMost US categoriesWhen it applies
Final value fee13.6% of the total up to $7,500, 2.35% aboveEvery sale
Per-order fee$0.30 for orders of $10 or less, $0.40 aboveEvery order
International fee1.65% of the totalBuyer or delivery address outside the US, unless shipped with eBay International Shipping
Below Standard surchargeExtra 6% of the sale total, 7% after four or more straight monthsMonth after a Below Standard evaluation
Top Rated Plus discount10% off final value fees, excluding the per-order feeUS-resident Top Rated sellers, on listings with same- or 1-business-day handling and 30-day or longer free returns

Worked examples:

  • A $40 item with $5 shipping and $3.60 sales tax: 13.6% of $48.60 is $6.61, plus $0.40, so eBay keeps $7.01.
  • A $10,000 sale: 13.6% of $7,500 is $1,020, 2.35% of $2,500 is $58.75, plus $0.40, for $1,079.15.

Some categories use other rates, such as 15.3% for books and magazines, Store subscribers have their own schedule, and advertising is charged on top.

Which eBay policies catch Amazon sellers out?

  • Duplicate listings. eBay allows one fixed-price listing per identical item; separate listings must differ significantly in at least two attributes, such as price, title, photos or product ID. Items that vary by size or color can share one listing with variations, so group Amazon child ASINs into one multi-variation listing.
  • Product identifiers. Most categories require a GTIN such as a UPC or EAN, or brand plus MPN. A UPC must pass GTIN-12 validation and an EAN GTIN-13, with the real brand in the brand field.
  • Seller standards. eBay rates sellers on the 20th of each month. Above Standard needs a transaction defect rate of 2% or less and no more than 2 cases, or 0.3% of transactions if higher, closed without seller resolution. Top Rated adds a defect rate of 0.5% or less, at most 5 late shipments or 3%, carrier-validated tracking within handling time on 95% of transactions, 90 days of account history, and 100 transactions and $1,000 in US sales a year.

How does Growth OS sync listings, prices, stock and orders?

Growth OS runs on your own Amazon and eBay accounts through their APIs, as one loop:

  1. Listings. Listing agents turn Amazon catalog data into eBay inventory items keyed by your SKU, fitted to eBay's 80-character titles, item specifics and variations, and attach the business policies and inventory location each offer needs.
  2. Prices. Each SKU has a floor built from landed cost, fulfillment and eBay's fee on the full total. Changes above the floor go out in bulk; anything below it waits for approval.
  3. Stock. One inventory position across FBA, your 3PL and your warehouse sets eBay's available quantity, minus a per-channel buffer, so an Amazon sale reduces what eBay can sell. The same ledger drives stockout alerts.
  4. Orders. Paid orders arrive through eBay's Fulfillment API and route to MCF, a 3PL or your warehouse by stock and cost, as in order routing. Tracking is sent to eBay as soon as the fulfiller returns it.
  5. Health and margin. Orders at risk of shipping late, defects and open cases are flagged before the monthly evaluation, and every order is reported at contribution margin.

On top of the base we build what your operation needs, such as an agent that answers eBay buyer messages from order data. We have shipped integrations for 20+ marketplaces, eBay among them. Seller7 is a multi-marketplace seller OS used by 700+ sellers, Ecom Global is a catalog built for 100M+ products, and Grow8 uses AI listing agents that audit, rewrite and publish listings.

Is eBay more profitable than Amazon?

It depends on the SKU. eBay charges on shipping and tax as well as price; Amazon charges a referral fee that varies by category, plus FBA fees and any ad spend. Compare contribution margin per SKU per channel after fulfillment, returns and advertising, and list only what clears it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sell on eBay and Amazon at the same time?

Yes. You can list the same products on both as long as you own the stock or have a wholesale supplier agreement. The work is keeping quantities in sync so a sale on one channel does not oversell the other.

How much does eBay take from a $10,000 sale?

In most US categories, $1,079.15: 13.6% of the first $7,500 ($1,020), 2.35% of the remaining $2,500 ($58.75) and a $0.40 per-order fee. The fee applies to the total including shipping and sales tax, and some categories use different rates.

Do I need a business account to sell on eBay as a brand?

If you operate as a registered business, eBay says you should. It counts sole proprietors, LLCs, corporations and partnerships as registered businesses and asks for your legal business name, EIN, business address and stakeholder details. Your eBay and checking account types must match, so payouts go to a business checking account in the same business name.

Can I fulfill eBay orders with my FBA inventory?

Yes, through Amazon Multichannel Fulfillment (MCF), which ships non-Amazon orders from the same inventory pool as FBA in unbranded packaging by default. eBay allows third-party fulfillment of stock you own if you are named as the seller on packing slips and invoices, the item arrives within your listing terms, and the provider may use eBay order data only to fulfill that order. Buying from another retailer to ship to your buyer is not allowed.

Do I need an eBay Store to sell on eBay?

No. Without a Store you get 250 zero insertion fee listings a month, then $0.35 per listing in most categories. On an annual plan, Starter ($4.95 a month) keeps the 250 but lowers the fee after that to $0.30, and Basic ($21.95 a month) raises the allowance to 1,000 fixed-price listings.

Is it more profitable to sell on eBay or Amazon?

It varies by SKU. Compare contribution margin per product on each channel after marketplace fees, fulfillment, returns and ads, and list on eBay only where the margin holds.
