Amazon MCF, Walmart WFS or a 3PL: how to fulfill orders from every channel

Amazon MCF ships orders from any channel out of your FBA stock, unbranded by default, in 3 business days (Standard) or 2 (Expedited). Walmart WFS ships Walmart.com orders from stock you send Walmart, mostly in two days with the Fulfilled by Walmart tag, and its Multichannel Solutions add-on ships other channels' orders from that stock. A 3PL fits branded, oversize, remote and slow-moving orders. Choose per channel.
- Amazon MCF lists Standard delivery in 3 business days and Expedited in 2 (standard-size items, lower 48 and DC) from FBA stock; US fees add a 3.5% surcharge, and peak fees run October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027.
- Walmart allows MCF only in neutral packaging with unbranded delivery vehicles. Amazon has waived its usual 5% surcharge for blocking Amazon Logistics until January 14, 2027.
- WFS ships most Walmart.com orders in two days with the Fulfilled by Walmart tag; Walmart Multichannel Solutions ships other channels' orders from WFS stock in 2 or 3-5 business days, unbranded.
- Amazon lists 35% off Standard and Expedited MCF rates for US TikTok Shop orders for 12 months, applied to orders sent through a supported integration partner (checked September 25, 2026).
- Amazon says it will deactivate the older Amazon MCF: US Fulfillment app for Shopify on September 30, 2026, and asks merchants to move to the MCF and Buy with Prime app.
- Growth OS routes orders from every channel to the right warehouse, 3PL or Amazon MCF, with carrier selection across 13+ carriers.
A Walmart order, a TikTok Shop sale and a Shopify checkout can all ship from the same stock, but not from the same place at the same cost. For a brand already on FBA, the choice is between three networks: Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF), Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) and a 3PL or your own warehouse. This guide compares them channel by channel: the delivery promise each earns, the packaging each channel allows, what drives the cost and which stock pool each draws down. Every marketplace fact below was checked on September 25, 2026.
What are your fulfillment options for non-Amazon orders?
Four networks can ship an order placed off Amazon, and each holds its own stock.
- Amazon MCF ships from the units you already hold in FBA, for any channel. Our Multi-Channel Fulfillment glossary entry explains how it works and how its fees are built.
- Walmart's network. WFS ships Walmart.com orders from stock you send Walmart. Its add-on, Walmart Multichannel Solutions (MCS), ships other channels' orders from the same WFS stock.
- Your 3PL or warehouse ships anything, under rules you agree with the operator.
- A marketplace's own network, such as Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT), ships that marketplace's orders only.
Amazon's multichannel selling tools in Seller Central, announced September 24, 2026 and rolling out gradually to US sellers over the coming months (checked September 25, 2026), let sellers who already have access connect Walmart, eBay, Shopify and TikTok and fulfill those orders through Amazon in a few clicks (our explainer). The trade-offs stay the same: every MCF order takes a unit Amazon buyers could have bought. Choosing a node per order is the job of multi-marketplace order routing; this page covers the step before it, which networks to set up for which channels.
How does Amazon MCF work for Walmart and TikTok Shop orders?
Walmart. Walmart's packaging policy (checked September 25, 2026) allows Multi-Channel Fulfillment only when neither the packaging nor the delivery vehicle shows another retailer's branding, and it bans seller-branded boxes and promotional inserts on Walmart orders. Amazon's guide to MCF for Walmart orders turns that into two settings: blank boxes and Amazon Logistics blocked. Blocking adds a 5% surcharge, which Amazon has waived until January 14, 2027. Amazon takes no referral fee on MCF orders; Walmart still takes its own. Amazon's MCF FAQ adds two limits: unbranded packaging is the default only when it does not slow delivery, so choose "Only ship with blank boxes", and it does not cover items over 56 inches or 49.9 lb.
Walmart measures an MCF-shipped order like any order you ship yourself, and you answer its customer questions, because Amazon does not provide customer service for MCF orders. Walmart's seller performance standards hold you to on-time delivery of 90% or more, valid tracking on 99% or more, late shipments at 5% or less and cancellations at 2% or less. Its shipping and fulfillment policy expects shipment within two operational days unless Walmart approves more, and says the delivery date shoppers see draws on your on-time history and also determines the item's search ranking. Set lag time and transit time on MCF-routed items so the promised date covers MCF's 3 business days Standard or 2 Expedited. More in our Walmart guide.
TikTok Shop. TikTok's Fulfillment API overview (checked September 25, 2026) names two fulfillment types: Fulfilled by TikTok, and Fulfilled by Seller, which covers TikTok Shipping (labels bought in TikTok Shop) and Seller Shipping (your own carrier). TikTok verifies Seller Shipping tracking numbers and may cancel and refund an order it cannot validate or that misses its handling service level. Buyers can also cancel within an hour of paying without your approval, so an integration should check for cancellations before it creates the MCF order.
Amazon's page on MCF for TikTok Shop orders lists integration apps such as WebBee, AfterShip, Rithum and LINGXING, which pass MCF tracking back to TikTok automatically. Not every seller has Seller Shipping: those without it set up an MCF warehouse in TikTok Shop Seller Center first. Returns must go to an address you control, such as a 3PL, not an Amazon warehouse. Amazon's MCF pricing page lists 35% off Standard and Expedited rates for US TikTok Shop orders for 12 months, through supported integration partners (checked September 25, 2026). See our TikTok Shop guide.
When does WFS make sense?
Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) is Walmart's fulfillment program for Marketplace sellers. You send inventory to Walmart fulfillment centers; when a shopper orders on Walmart.com, Walmart picks, packs and ships the item, answers the customer's questions and takes returns by mail or in its stores. Most items ship in two days with the "Fulfilled by Walmart" tag, and the same stock can serve other channels through Multichannel Solutions.
That summary follows Walmart's WFS overview and WFS page. WFS vs FBA, in short: each serves its own marketplace from its own stock, with its own fees and delivery badge, and each can ship other channels' orders from that stock. The table uses Walmart's pricing page and Amazon's FBA page, all checked September 25, 2026.
| WFS vs FBA | Walmart WFS | Amazon FBA |
|---|---|---|
| Orders it ships | Walmart.com orders | Amazon orders |
| Shopper-facing promise | Two-day delivery for most items, "Fulfilled by Walmart" tag | Free two-day shipping through Prime |
| Customer service and returns | Walmart; returns by mail or in stores | Amazon |
| How much stock you can send | No minimum or maximum, per Walmart | Restock limits (FBA capacity limits) |
| Fulfillment fee basis | Shipping weight, from $3.45 at 1 lb or less, plus add-ons such as apparel and oversize | Product price, weight and dimensions |
| Storage | $0.75 per cubic foot per month January to September; more in October to December for units held over 30 days; no long-term fee in year one | Monthly storage, plus an aged inventory surcharge |
| Other channels | Multichannel Solutions (needs WFS) | Multi-Channel Fulfillment |
WFS earns its place when Walmart is a steady channel, not a test. WFS items carry the "Fulfilled by Walmart" tag and two-day tags, which Walmart says help them rank in search, and Walmart meets most performance metrics for WFS orders, except the Negative Feedback Rate. Items must fit its limits (up to 500 lb, nothing needing temperature control), and receiving, usually 2 business days, can take up to 10 from October 1 to December 31. When your WFS units run out and you still hold stock, orders for that item switch back to you.
WFS is weaker for slow sellers. The FAQ in Walmart's WFS overview does not recommend it for slow-moving, out-of-season or customizable items, and its pricing page adds $1.50 per cubic foot per month for units stored more than 30 days in October to December. Stock that sells a few units a week and serves just Walmart.com ties up cash in a pool no other channel can reach. For those SKUs, ship Walmart orders from your own warehouse or 3PL, send WFS your steady daily sellers, and widen the list as Walmart sales grow.
Multichannel Solutions changes that math for Walmart-led brands. Walmart's MCS guide says it ships Amazon, eBay, Shein, Temu and TikTok Shop orders from WFS stock, unbranded, in 2 business days (expedited) or 3 to 5 (standard). It excludes multi-box and big and bulky items and P.O. boxes, keeps items of 31 to 150 lb off expedited, does not commit to its speeds from October 1 to December 31, and gives first-time users 20% off MCS fulfillment fees for 90 days (offer ends January 31, 2027). Its MCS page says no Walmart commission applies and that an item can be set up for other channels only.
When is a 3PL the better choice?
A 3PL or your own warehouse wins where MCF and WFS set rules it does not have.
- Branded unboxing. MCF and MCS ship unbranded. If the box and insert are part of your Shopify brand, they come from a warehouse that packs to your spec (Walmart orders still need a plain box).
- Excluded items. MCF's unbranded packaging does not cover items over 56 inches or 49.9 lb, which rules those items out for Walmart orders; MCS excludes multi-box and big and bulky items.
- Tight handling. eBay's Top Rated Plus seal needs same- or one-business-day handling, which a 3PL with a late cutoff can meet.
- Remote addresses. MCF adds a remote-area surcharge of 100% (standard size) or 200% (oversize) on orders outside the lower 48 and DC, such as Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
- The long tail. Walmart does not recommend WFS for slow movers, and old FBA stock picks up an aged inventory surcharge, so slow sellers often sit better in one warehouse that serves every channel.
3PL pricing depends on the operator and the contract, so compare quotes on one order profile: receiving, storage, pick and pack per order and per extra unit, packaging, postage and any markup, returns and monthly minimums. Then test the integration. A 3PL that cannot take orders by API and post tracking back inside each channel's deadline turns savings into late shipments. When counts at the 3PL, FBA and WFS drift apart, daily 3PL and FBA reconciliation catches it while units can still be found.
We have built this from the warehouse side. For Pacific Prep, a prep-and-ship company, we built its warehouse management system: Shopify orders synced in real time, Amazon's inbound shipment flow for FBA stock, ShipStation labels, receiving, bin locations and returns. A warehouse that ships direct orders and also feeds FBA is the backbone of the stock split below, and our ShipStation integration page maps that build lane by lane.
How do you compare MCF, WFS and 3PL cost per order?
Headline fees mislead because they cover different things. MCF and MCS quote one fee per unit that includes pick, pack and delivery, while many 3PLs bill pick and pack and postage as separate lines, and none of the three headline numbers includes storage, inbound freight or returns. Compare the full cost of one order at each node instead, using the same order profile for all three.
Cost per order at a node = fulfillment fee + surcharges + postage (3PL only) + packaging + storage share + inbound share + expected return cost
- Fulfillment fee. MCF prices each unit by size, weight, units per order and speed, and Amazon says multi-unit orders save up to 50% per unit. MCS prices by weight and speed, with a lower per-unit fee when an order has several units of the same item under 30 lb. A 3PL usually charges per order and per extra unit.
- Surcharges. US MCF adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge (since May 2, 2026), peak rates from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027 and the remote-area surcharge, per Amazon's MCF FAQ.
- Storage share. Cubic feet per unit, times the monthly rate, times the months a unit waits.
- Inbound share and returns. Freight into FBA or WFS per unit, plus your return rate times each network's cost to receive and restock a return.
Run it for your top 20 SKUs at their usual units per order and shipping zones, once at normal rates and once at peak rates. The answer often changes by SKU: a light single-unit order already in FBA and a 20 lb two-unit order bound for Hawaii rarely point to the same network. Our MCF glossary entry breaks the MCF fee down line by line.
How do you split stock across them?
Each network is its own pool, and every extra pool splits your safety stock. One workable split for an Amazon-led brand that also sells on Walmart, TikTok Shop, Shopify and eBay:
| Pool | Ships | Refilled from | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| FBA | Amazon orders, plus other channels through MCF | Your 3PL, supplier or Amazon AWD | Other channels draw on it only above an Amazon days-of-cover floor |
| WFS | Walmart.com orders, plus other channels through MCS | Your 3PL or supplier | Size it to Walmart sales; add MCS only if WFS is your main pool |
| 3PL or warehouse | Shopify, eBay and TikTok Shop orders, oversize and branded orders, the long tail | Your supplier | Holds the reserve that tops up FBA and WFS |
- One off-Amazon pool per SKU. Running MCF and MCS for the same SKU splits off-Amazon stock two ways, and each side needs its own buffer.
- A floor for Amazon. Stop routing other channels to MCF when days of cover drops below the floor you set.
- Buffered quantities. Publish what each channel may sell after a buffer, so a TikTok spike does not oversell Walmart.
- A reserve upstream. Amazon's FBA page describes AWD as bulk storage that distributes to the Amazon store and non-Amazon channels, so it can hold the reserve for an Amazon-first brand.
A decision table by channel
Each table compares the three networks on delivery promise, packaging rule, cost drivers, stock pool and when to pick them. The facts come from the sources linked on this page, checked September 25, 2026; the "Pick it when" rows are our judgment. Fees and waivers change, so re-check them before peak.
Walmart orders
| Walmart | Amazon MCF | WFS | Your 3PL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speed and badge | 3 business days Standard, 2 Expedited; the date Walmart shows depends on your settings and on-time history | Two-day delivery for most items, "Fulfilled by Walmart" tag | Your lag time (two operational days unless Walmart approves more) plus transit; same on-time history rule |
| Packaging rule | Blank boxes, Amazon Logistics blocked; not above 56 in or 49.9 lb | Walmart-branded packaging, packed by Walmart | Plain neutral box; no seller-branded boxes or promotional inserts |
| Cost drivers | MCF fee; 3.5% surcharge; peak rates; 5% blocking surcharge waived until Jan 14, 2027 | Fee by shipping weight from $3.45; storage per cubic foot, higher in peak | Pick and pack, packaging, postage, storage |
| Stock pool | FBA, shared with Amazon buyers | WFS, Walmart-only unless you add MCS | Your warehouse, shared with direct channels |
| Customer service | You; Amazon does not handle MCF orders | Walmart | You |
| Metrics you carry | All seller-fulfilled metrics | Negative Feedback Rate; Walmart meets most others | All seller-fulfilled metrics |
| Pick it when | Walmart is new or small and FBA has cover to spare | Walmart sells steadily and items fit WFS limits | Items are oversize, or one warehouse serves Walmart and your site |
TikTok Shop orders
| TikTok Shop | Amazon MCF | WFS (Multichannel Solutions) | Your 3PL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speed and badge | 3 or 2 business days; the MCF tracking number goes back to TikTok, which must be able to validate it | 2 or 3 to 5 business days; no speed commitment October 1 to December 31; confirm TikTok accepts the carrier | TikTok Shipping labels, or Seller Shipping with a carrier TikTok supports if your account has it, inside TikTok's handling service level |
| Packaging rule | Unbranded by default | Unbranded poly bags or brown boxes | Your own |
| Cost drivers | MCF fee; 35% off Standard and Expedited for 12 months via a supported integration | MCS fee by weight and speed; no Walmart commission | Pick and pack, packaging, label |
| Stock pool | FBA | WFS, shared with Walmart.com | Your warehouse |
| Returns | An address you control, never an Amazon warehouse | Walmart takes returns by mail | Your 3PL |
| Pick it when | Stock sits in FBA and a video spike will not empty it | You are Walmart-led, with little in FBA | TikTok volume is steady and you would rather not run an FBT pool |
Fulfilled by TikTok is the fourth option. TikTok's FBT inbound guide (checked September 25, 2026) describes hub warehouses that charge placement fees and warns that goods unmatched from your TikTok SKUs stop being sellable. It is a second pool for one channel, so weigh it like WFS: worth it once TikTok sells enough to keep that stock moving.
Shopify orders
| Shopify | Amazon MCF | WFS (Multichannel Solutions) | Your 3PL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speed and badge | 3 or 2 business days; Prime delivery on your site if you add Buy with Prime | 2 or 3 to 5 business days; no P.O. boxes | Your cutoff and carrier |
| Packaging rule | Unbranded | Unbranded | Branded boxes and inserts |
| Cost drivers | MCF fee, through Amazon's MCF and Buy with Prime app | MCS fee and WFS storage | Pick and pack, packaging, postage |
| Stock pool | FBA; the app pushes fulfillable FBA units, not inbound ones, to Shopify | WFS | Your warehouse, as a Shopify location |
| Pick it when | Direct volume is small and a Prime badge helps conversion | You are Walmart-led | Unboxing matters or direct volume keeps a warehouse busy |
Amazon's app user guide says the older Amazon MCF: US Fulfillment app will be deactivated on September 30, 2026. Move to the MCF and Buy with Prime app now: export your SKU mapping as a CSV from the old app, upload it to the new one, rank "Amazon Fulfillment" above "Amazon MCF" in Shopify's order routing, and place a test order. Amazon's MCF page lists Prime delivery on your own site (both checked September 25, 2026). Shopify's badge, Shop Promise, goes to the top 1% of shippers on Shopify for qualifying US orders, based on shipping and delivery performance, so a slow node can cost you the badge. See our page for Shopify brands.
eBay orders
| eBay | Amazon MCF | WFS (Multichannel Solutions) | Your 3PL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Speed and badge | 3 or 2 business days to deliver; Amazon publishes delivery times, not handling times, so test scans before promising one-day handling | 2 or 3 to 5 business days | Same- or one-day handling with a late cutoff, as Top Rated Plus needs |
| Packaging rule | Unbranded; any packing slip or invoice must name you as the seller | Unbranded; same eBay condition | Your own |
| Cost drivers | MCF fee | MCS fee | Pick and pack, packaging, postage |
| Stock pool | FBA | WFS | Your warehouse |
| Pick it when | eBay orders are occasional and items sit in FBA | You are Walmart-led | eBay is steady and you want the Top Rated Plus seal |
eBay's seller performance policy gives the Top Rated Plus seal to Top Rated sellers with same- or one-business-day handling and free returns of 30 days or more, and Top Rated needs carrier-validated tracking uploaded within handling time on at least 95% of transactions. eBay's dropshipping policy keeps you responsible for delivery within your listing's time frame, and its drop shipping guidance for sellers allows third-party fulfillment of stock you own if you are named as the seller on every packing slip and invoice and your contract bars the provider from other uses of eBay order data (all checked September 25, 2026). More in our eBay guide.
Carriers, warehouses, routes and routing rules configured in one place
Read the Ecom Global case study ↗Who can set this up across your channels?
Ecomsellertool builds the system that makes this choice order by order. We deploy Growth OS on your own accounts, where orders from every channel land in one queue, routed to the right warehouse, 3PL or Amazon MCF, with carrier selection across 13+ carriers. You keep your accounts, your data and the custom code we build; the Growth OS base is licensed to you.
On top, we build the connectors your 3PL and, where you use it, WFS need, and the rules for each channel. The carrier layer draws on Ecom Global, built for 100M+ products, 20+ marketplaces and 13+ carriers. The multichannel operations agent we build publishes buffered stock to each channel within the rules you approve and sends orders that break a rule back to your team with the evidence; its page lists which steps follow fixed rules and which use an AI model.
Walmart connections run through the Walmart Marketplace API. Walmart's developer notice says existing Delegated Access keys work only until the end of September 2026 (checked September 25, 2026), so any app or 3PL connector that still uses them needs to move to OAuth 2.0 now; our OAuth 2.0 guide covers the fix. We have built on Amazon's seller APIs since 2017.

Frequently asked questions
Does an MCF-shipped Walmart order count toward my Walmart seller metrics?
Yes. Walmart says it meets most performance metrics for you only on orders WFS ships, and even then not the Negative Feedback Rate. An order you send through MCF is measured like any order you ship yourself: on-time delivery of 90% or more, valid tracking on 99% or more, late shipments at 5% or less and cancellations at 2% or less. Customer questions on that order are also yours to answer, because Amazon does not provide customer service for MCF orders.
Can Walmart Fulfillment Services ship my Amazon, eBay or TikTok Shop orders?
Yes, through Walmart Multichannel Solutions, once you use WFS. Walmart ships those orders from your WFS stock in unbranded poly bags or brown boxes, in 2 business days (expedited) or 3 to 5 (standard), to the 50 states and Puerto Rico but not to P.O. boxes, with no speed commitment from October 1 to December 31. Walmart says the orders and returns must follow the terms of the channel they came from, so read each marketplace's rules for third-party fulfillment before you switch it on.
Should I use MCF and Multichannel Solutions for the same SKU?
Usually not. Each network ships from its own stock, so running both for one SKU splits your off-Amazon inventory into two pools, and each pool needs its own buffer. Pick the network that already holds most of that SKU, usually FBA for an Amazon-led brand and WFS for a Walmart-led one, and let a 3PL hold the reserve that refills it.
What happens to the Amazon MCF app for Shopify on September 30, 2026?
Amazon says it will deactivate the existing Amazon MCF: US Fulfillment app that day and asks merchants to move to the MCF and Buy with Prime app for Shopify, which also pushes fulfillable FBA quantities to Shopify once SKUs are mapped. If your store still runs the old app, install the new one, remap your SKUs and push one test order through before the deadline.
Is Fulfilled by TikTok a better fit than MCF for TikTok Shop orders?
It depends on volume. Fulfilled by TikTok ships from FBT warehouses, so it needs a separate stock pool, inbound shipments that may pass through a hub with placement fees, and goods matched to your TikTok SKUs. MCF uses FBA stock you already hold, and as of September 2026 Amazon lists a 35% TikTok Shop discount for orders sent through supported integrations. MCF is the lighter start; FBT is worth a look once TikTok sells enough to keep a second pool moving.
Do I still need a 3PL if I use FBA and WFS?
Often, yes. A 3PL covers what the marketplace networks exclude or price poorly: branded direct-to-consumer packaging, items above MCF's unbranded-packaging limits or outside Multichannel Solutions rules, remote addresses and slow movers. It also holds the reserve that refills FBA and WFS. A brand with a narrow catalog of small items on one or two channels can sometimes do without one.
